Quartz, granite or marble?
To answer this question, you first need to determine your needs.
Quartz:
It offers a modern look and is ideal for a workspace as it resists scratches and stains. It’s ideal for use in damp environments, as quarz is waterproof thanks to its composition of 93% ground quartz and 7% resin. However, it doesn’t like heat, and its color can change if it’s in direct contact with a heating element.
Granite
Its unique, natural look makes it an advantageous choice for a workspace.
Granite is a natural stone that resists scratches and heat. Being a porous stone, it will require annual maintenance with the application of a sealer that will block the pores and prevent liquid elements from pre-entering and staining the stone.
Marble
Marble is the least recommended stone for a kitchen workspace, as this natural stone is very porous and delicate. This soft stone is vulnerable to scratches, chips and cracks. It’s the ideal stone for a piece of furniture, a wall or an accessory.
How to clean your stone countertop
Mild soap and warm water is all you’ll need to clean your new countertops.
Avoid using harsh chemicals such as ammonia or bleach.
Granite cleaners with sealers are available on the market to seal granite while you clean it and maintain its glossy finish.
Can I cut directly on my granite countertop?
Although this is not recommended, you are more likely to damage your knives than the granite itself, as this stone scores a 7 on the MOH hardness scale, and as manufacturers we have to use diamond-tipped blades to cut this extremely hard material!
Where does granite come from?
Granite comes from all over the world, including Quebec www.polycor.com
The most sought-after natural stones generally come from Brazil, India and Italy.
